The Scotland arm of the UK's largest woodland conservation charity. We create, protect & restore native woods & trees for people & wildlife, to combat climate change & build a greener future.
Thanks for the compliment!
Have been rude about much of the guidance available due to failure to reflect on existing evidence and that is often clearly wrong. Delighted to read this excellent evidence-based guidance on woodland creation by the visionary Woodland Trust.

Could you be our next North Scotland Site Manager? This is a rare opportunity to care for some truly special woods: from a slice of #ScotlandsRainforest near Oban, to mixed woodland on the shores of Loch Ness, & ancient oakwoods in Sutherland.

This is the Kissing Beech at Kilvarock Estate nr Inverness. 😚 It's name refers to an incident where a member of the Lord’s family & a housemaid were seen embracing illicitly under its branches. 💕 It's approx 5 metres in girth - a top #ThickTrunkTuesday candidate!

Want to help this wee fella? Make sure you regularly clean your bird feeders, tables and baths. Greenfinches have suffered a major population decline in the UK over the last couple of decades, caused by a disease called Trichomonosis that spreads at feeders.

#PeatlandRestoration is not the most photogenic of subjects, but this blog from our partner #AssyntFoundation explains why it's important & what those diggers are doing on the heather. 👉 buff.ly/0yI3qFP Thanks PeatlandACTION. Great to see more carbon storing work happening in Assynt.

Postcards from our Outreach team who were conducting a survey of ancient woodland on Loch Veyatie in #Assynt recently.⛵

Lots of ancient ‘graveyard/bone' tree specimens found including this 'harp' tree (as christened by Doug). Also an encouraging amount of tree regeneration appearing.🤞

🌧️ Bit of a rainy one last week but that didn't deter volunteers from #Kinclaven and #Formonthills Wood from mucking in!

🌳 They planted 9️⃣0️⃣ trees and removed x2 bulk bags of old tree guards in one session.

🍰 A+ for effort, rewarded with homemade cake from one of the volunteers - yum!

Currently it's much easier for landowners to benefit from lucrative carbon schemes (such as the Woodland & Peatland Carbon Codes) than it is for tenant #Crofters. The next Scot Gov should change this so that tenant crofters can benefit when they improve their land for nature. #ScotParlElection26
