I got into a pinhole camera sales group after reading about #maskpark, a voyeurism ring that involves at least 100k Chinese users on Telegram.

It has compared to South Korea’s Nth Room.

Here are demos of pinhole cameras on a shoe, a fan, a car key and the side of a phone:
Feel absolutely powerless when China’s Nth room is happening but no action is observed from regulators.

To join #maskpark on Telegram, one must submit video/photo of women around them — witnesses have seen content of these men’s girlfriends, wifes, mother in laws and daughters. 1/2

By comparing their envisioned future at graduation versus the reality, the comedy skit shows how Chinese graduates are reacting to the tough job market with humor and exaggeration (similar to ‘lie flat’). But there is also a certain amount of truth in it.

How do Chinese graduates *really* feel about the job market?🥀 | Following the yuan

An education graduate ends up selling mice poison in dialect.

A medical student ends up being a masseur.

A hospitality graduate ends up being a waiter.

The customer who’s rude to the waiter is an influencer. 1/2
4 patterns in how Chinese graduates feel about the job market:

1. Available job opportunities do not require higher education
2. 985/211, overseas degrees are useless
3. Things are extra hard for liberal arts majors
4. STEM majors are used to their core.

I am a China researcher and strategist who loves picking apart trends and the societal forces behind them. I do business research that explores opportunities in China. And, more broadly, I advocate for looking at China through a human lens. But it’s not the only lens I use. 1/3

Editors note: This week, after multiple rounds of starting to draft, pause and self-censor, I find it necessary to write something, still, about China’s collective amnesia phenomenon. To circumvent in...

“The reality is, Asian women need to keep fighting for themselves, because they don’t expect anyone else would do it for them.

More often than not, Asian women don’t speak up — and when they do, their feelings are dismissed.”
