is it just me or does nostalgia sometimes feel haunting? like... it's a lovely reminder of a pleasant time/perspective long past, yet it's persistently haunting that you'll never find it again. a snapshot of an era you deeply crave to return to, permanently out of reach.

today's thing to overthink: to find work, what is the ideal ratio of "able to write music in any style/genre" to "having my own distinct artistic sound"

"wà" is another form of "to be" (location) but "wá" means "to come"!

so many important words are the same with small changes in pitch or vowel pronunciation!!!

it's a fun challenge, and it reminds me of learning mandarin, but the essentials all being so similar is an immediate steep learning curve

i love learning languages, but my own tribal language (yoruba) is probably the toughest that i've studied.

"ni" is a form of "to be", but "ní" means "to have" AND "in/at"

"mo" is regular "i", but "mọ" is "to know"

"n" is the negative form of "i", but "ń" is the present progressive tense marker

ofc, "bad" in an artistic sense is ridiculously subjective and amorphous but that somehow doesn't stop me from being afraid of it. in fact, that makes it all the more frightening because i can't see "bad" coming until it's suddenly here

this takes a lot of inspo from animal crossing OSTs, btw!

- pop dominant voicings (sus11 or sus13 slash chords, e.g. Fmaj7/G or Bb/C)

- unresolved (often dominant function) chords sustained on weak beats

- tonicization/modal interchange, pedal tones

analyzing and writing it is so much fun...
