A game developer in Boulder, CO. I love nice people who aren’t trolls online and apparently my main hobby is now home renovation if the last year is any indication.

(He/him/his)
He may have been the literal best human at being at the top of a game development team. The game industry can hardly afford to have lost him.

I hope the game development industry as a whole isn’t as adrift as it feels knowing he’s no longer with us.

A lot of really good folks insist that men have to be better at speaking up about the treatment of women, and that’s wonderful, but it’s clear that we also need a guide.

Not because men are bad, but because this is a novel skill that few have developed. It should be easy to follow.

I’m absolutely in the minority on this but I want to see more special edition re-releases of films with dated VFX. Like, most of the LotR VFX hold up, but certainly not all of them.

Find the old files and improve nothing but the materials & lighting, or something along those lines. I’d watch that.

I sort of expected to like Scarface, and instead I hated it.

I really wanted to hate Dirty Dancing, and instead I really liked it. It dragged for a bit in a few parts, but I give it an 80’s movie pass for the occasionally sluggish pacing.

Something that I think is missing from BlueSky is the laugh react. A lot of folks disable comments, and sometimes they did that because what they said is hilariously stupid.

So I want to laugh react to those posts, since I can’t post “hahahahaaaaa… lol”.

The Northman was a solid 5/10. I feel like it’s okay to make a 5/10 film, as long as you don’t have tent-pole budgets for every single film you make.

But if you find you’ve made a 5/10, for the love of god, make it a 90 minute movie.

OK GO is a pretty good band. I have bands I like better, but I definitely think OK GO is pretty good.

I only know about them because they made a really great music video.

How many bands should I know about, but don’t, because they never made a viral music video? Tons, I bet.

I just watched Fast Times at Ridgemont High for the first time. It wasn’t very good.

I sort of wonder if this movie is mostly famous for having a passable plot, but mostly well spaced nudity throughout the film.

I just watched a bit of an interview with Monika Lewinsky, and holy shit is she whip smart. It should have been obvious that she’s brilliant; she was working in the Whitehouse before a lot of folks graduate from college.

Whatever you may think of her, remember she’s probably a lot smarter than you.

New Doom games are a lot more fun than new Wolfenstein games, but calling Doom the father of First Person shooters is silly and wrong. Wolfenstein was the first major FPS.

Wolfenstein 3D was financially a huge success, critically a huge success, and it precedes Doom by about a year.

I understand why Scarface wasn’t well received when it was first released. I don’t care about the violence or the cursing, but I do care that this is about a shitty person who sucks, but who is convinced he’s great.

He’s a bad person, and watching a bad person be a bad person is clearly not for me.

There are a bonkers number of people still arguing with flat earthers on Facebook. How is this a thing? ICE is holding US citizens without charging them with a crime or giving them a phone call or access to a lawyer, but it’s more important that an impolite idiot is bad at shapes?

I love the night sky. Even when there’s no full moon. Even when there’s no aurora. Even when there’s light pollution. If you can’t find anything to look at through your telescope, it’s cloudy or you’re not really trying.

Have a look at Saturn through a good telescope, it’ll take your breath away.

Remember when you realized that most big social media companies were just hosting amateur hour debates among folks who know next to nothing about the subject they’re debating?

Do you want to talk to confidently wrong people? Go on Facebook or Twitter!

This is basically every time I sit down these days. I’m impressed with her because she’s a super scaredy feral one.

There’s something magical about the time between when you want to get up, and when your cat lets you get up. This is when you’re most aware of how much you love this little noise beast.

I love mine so much, I’ll let my knee ache a little for another 5 or 10 minutes.

Imagine someone made a Superman movie as good as the first of the Richard Donner films. We haven’t seen a superhero move that good since Avengers Endgame.

DC is due for a really good run (there wasn’t anything wrong with the Snyderverse set, but none were truly great).

Realizing you can just substitute things in most recipes will change your life. Not to mention winging simple recipes.

I started years ago screwing around with soup (you can even just add stuff to canned soup), and I’ve never looked back.

Except now I guess.

My god, people on Facebook are just dumb as fuck. I know why, Facebook promotes the dumbest shit it can find, but it’s still sometimes an incredible shock to find that some people are so hopelessly, willfully stupid.

If no one notices your posts on Facebook, good chance you’re reasonably smart.

My desk is a mess, but I managed to not only not kill this plant, but it bloomed this year. Not exactly a miracle, but I’m proud of my ever so slightly green thumb.

Game studios complain that game sales have dropped, and blame everything except how they poisoned the well with lackluster free games and shied away from innovation.

DoomTDA was great and sold well.

Battlefield 6 was great and sold well.

Hell, look at Dispatch.

Focus on game development!

When you’re busy, you want art to relieve a little stress and that’s huge.

But when you’re really struggling, you need art to help you process feelings of failure, regret, and sadness. Thank god for all the authors, musicians, filmmakers, game devs, and anyone else helping folks see themselves.

Among the places where the internet has room for improvement is in showing me ads for a show I want to see, but which is already sold out. I don’t need to see ads for things I can’t buy.

And maybe it’s collecting data on whether to do a second show, but I think the point stands.

I’ve been on about a decade long quest to make myself into someone who cares about the people around me, and who feels the full gamut of human emotions (not just the ones 90s high school culture thought were okay for men).

I think I’ve done it. It’s still a journey, but I’m past a milestone.

I’m watching the Halo TV show, and I hope it’s good. I’ve tempered my expectations, I know it can’t live up to my hopes for I want it to be.
