Gareth has an…interesting relationship with his parents. Hawke left to aid the Inquisition just after his 10th birthday and vanished. Fenris left a few years later chasing a lead to find her.
He was extremely close with his mother, & only saw his father on occasion

Yes, I bought it when it first came out and funny story- i hatedddd it! I didn’t understand open world games at the time and got very confused. I came back to it a few years later with better understanding of gaming and had a blast!

Gareth & Neve meet/flirt many times before VG, so he is stoked when they team up with Varric. It’s not until their fight where Neve refuses to say ‘I love you’ out of fear of the upcoming fight that Gareth finally figures out what he’s feeling for her. My guy’s not great with emotions lol

Vax is drawn to Dorian the moment they meet in the Chantry. He’s one of the only people that treats him like a person, not a holy symbol & he becomes a source of comfort/security for him. He realizes it’s love after meeting Dorian’s father, although it takes Dorian MUCH longer to figure it out.

Gareth saw what leadership did to his mother, and never wanted to follow in her footsteps. He constantly worried about making the wrong choices, and only after the fade prison & reuniting with his family does he start to truly embrace his role. He never considers himself a hero, just a guardian.

Vax never wanted to be a hero or a leader. He hated being trapped in the south, but felt compelled to help those in need despite vehemently rejecting the title of ‘herald’. Inquisitor wasn’t much better for him but it served a purpose. He largely considers himself a failure for not catching Solas.

💛 Vax is super secure and confident in his looks, but he does get self-conscious about a large scar on his neck he picked up during Inquisition.
💙 Gareth loves his eyes bc one of them is the same as his mother’s & he has so little of her left. He hates how much he looks like his father.
