🧵In recent months, headlines have been filled with nuclear threats, a renewed arms race, and governments doubling down on “deterrence.” It’s fair to wonder: is any real progress toward disarmament being made?

Thanks to everyone who joined us at RAF Lakenheath yesterday! The base commander refused to meet with us or accept a letter expressing our concerns over nuke deployments or the base's role in Israel's Gaza genocide.

Next action at the base is Saturday 27/09: cnduk.org/events/laken...

Evidence is clear that US nuclear weapons have arrived at the Lakenheath NATO base in Suffolk. These deadly weapons make us all a taregt. And they increase the risk of Britain being dragged into Trump's reckless wars. The British publiv totally understand how these nuclear weapons don't make us safer. That's why the majority oppose their deployment here in Britain. The bombs deployed – B61-12 warheads – are so-called ‘tactical’ ones, designed to be used on a battlefield. They have the destructive power to kill over 600,000 people and release toxic radiation that poisons the land and causes birth defects and generational cancers. Anti-nuclear campaigners from Greenham Common to Lakenheath have forced the US to withdraw their nuclear weapons before, and we’ll do it again. As part of the actions to condemn Trump's shameful state visit, join us at Lakenheath to say loud and clear that neither he nor his nuclear bombs are welcome here!

At exactly 8:15 a.m. JST, around the time you’re reading this, 80 years ago, an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima.

Today, we remember the lives lost, the survivors who continue to speak out, and the urgent need for nuclear disarmament. Read more here: www.icanw.org/remembering_...

Today marks 80 years since the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Dr. Terumi Tanaka, hibakusha and co-chair of Nihon Hidankyo, reminds us we need to act on nuclear disarmament now and we have the solution in our hands: the #NuclearBan Treaty.
