Jeongin worries about the effect this is all having on Chan. Days have passed, and things have only gotten worse. Jeongin watches from the side of the large, open room as Chan sits before Minho, who is collapsed against the wall, chest heaving in heavy breaths, cleaning his wounds. Most are self inflicted from the few ways Minho has been able to get at himself; some come from the demon itself, twisting Minho’s body into horrific shapes; others still come from the chains or the excruciating exorcisms Chan and the others try to perform. For a moment, Minho seems lucid; Jeongin knows—they all know—this will only last for so long. “Ch-Channie…” “Ssh, I’ve got you,” the man murmurs, his brow tight knit in concern as he wipes away blood from Minho’s neck. “We’ll get you out of this, Min, I swear.” “It’s hurts,” their voice breaks. “My head…there are so many things in my head. It tells me so many things." Minho lets out a broken sob. "I don’t know what’s real, hyung.” “This. This is real, Min. I’m here with you. We’re all here with you.” “I'm sorry, hyung. I know I fucked up, but please… Please let me out.” Chan's face twists with anguish. “You haven't done anything wrong, Minho—nothing. But…you know I can’t. I know you know that.” Silent tears roll down Minho’s cheeks. “Please. I just… I just want to go home.” Even from where he stands, Jeongin can make out the wobble in Chan’s lip. “I know, baby. I know. You will, soon.” “Hyung…” “Yeah?” “My soul is bound up in it. It belongs to it. We are one. Can’t you see that? I’ll never go home—I am home.” Chan sighs and moves away as Minho lets out a dark cackle. “You’re not going to get them, demon.” Chan looks so much older to Jeongin in these moments, like the toll of this is aging him years each day. He mutters something, something Jeongin wonders if anyone else hears. "I love you, kid, more than I’ve ever loved anyone or anything…so I will save you, one way or another.” The room darkens and everything begins to shake as if an earthquake is coming; bottles rattle in their cabinets, the shelves themselves threaten to fall over, and Jeongin is nearly tossed to the floor. Minho writhes, their body contorting in their bindings, the chains binding their wrists and ankles clattering against brick and cement. “You think you can contain me, human? You think these pitiful excuses for angels and this worthless demon can keep me bound forever?” Minho eyes are black and his chapped lips pull back as he bears his teeth in a wicked, sickening grin. “I have been hunting for such a powerful conduit for centuries,” the demon hisses, the sound not unlike shards of glass rubbing together, “and I have finally found it. I have killed countless pathetic mortals and worthless demons to get to it—do you think I will let it go so easily? What will love do for you when this body contains so much power?,” the demon sneers. "Where was love the first time Minho and I met, hm? Will you abandon him again, Chan?" Minho laughs maniacally. "How does it feel, hyung, knowing you left him out in the cold to die—left him for me to consume?"

He makes it to the kitchen before the feeling creeps over him. Jeongin freezes, standing in front of his open fridge, his hand gripping tightly on the door handle, the light bright in his face. Something is…wrong. The air in the apartment is still, and there is a humid stench he hadn't noticed until now. He leans in and takes a few sniffs of the inside of his fridge—nothing. Jeongin swallows around the lump in his throat. There is someone—or some thing—in his apartment with him, he realizes belatedly. He can sense it. The feeling of it crawls over his skin. Jeongin strains his hearing, seeking out any sound other than the dull ringing of panic in his ears and racing heart in his chest. He saw it. Of course he had. But he had been too focused on getting to the kitchen to really take it in. His brain had registered it as something Normal, something that Made Sense. Just a stack of pillows, it had whispered in his ear, nothing strange. The pull in his gut says otherwise. He wonders if this is even a fraction of what Minho feels in moments like this—what would he feel now? Would it have been able to sneak up on them? With another heavy swallow, Jeongin lets go of the refridgerator door, and slowly the light in the apartment disappears. Now it is just Jeongin and The Thing in the Dark. His legs feel like jelly and his chest hurts as his heart rabbits away, and yet he still manages to drag himself towards the opening that separates the kitchen from the hallway that leads, in one direction, to the bedroom and, in the other, to the living room. Jeongin stands in the hallway before it opens out into the living room; it's just a short two steps before he rounds the corner and there it will be—The Thing in the Dark.

He arrives, nerves once more on edge, at Minho's front door. He can hardly have his moment to hesitate, to consider leaving, running away, before the door swings open. Minho's eyes are wild, his hair sticking up in all directions as though his hands have been buried in it for so long, they have molded it into the very likeness of whatever internal dilemma Jisung imagines he must be facing. Before he can say a word, Minho's hands reach out for Jisung, claws digging into the front of his soft, cotton t-shirt, and he pulls the other omega into his apartment. "Min–" Jisung moans as lips crash into his. "Don't. Just kiss me," Minho pants, excitement and lust laced in his every syllable, in every note of his scent. Being ever the obedient kind of man…he does. He pulls Minho closer and kicks the door roughly shut with his foot. Jisung's back slams into it with the force of Minho's weight against him. His tongue pries its way between Minho's lips with little resistence, and the omega moans into his mouth. His lips are soft, plush; he tastes like tobacco and cherry chapstick and Heaven. "Jisung," Minho murmurs again and again, between each push and pull of lips and tongue, reverent and desperate. "You're perfect." He whimpers at the praise, unsure what he's done to deserve it but relishing in it all the same. "Minho. Minho, w-wait." The other omega pulls back and they both take a moment to gather themselves, to catch their breath. "Why?" "You…" Minho snickers, but there is little humor strong enough to overtake the lust in his eyes. "You defended my honor…quite showfully."
