The main objective of this portion of the project was to reconnect Lytton Creek with the Lytton Fan to activate a significant part of the floodplain in Van Norden Meadow, providing hydrologic and ecological benefits to a dry section of the meadow.
Phase 2 focused on restoring the Lytton Fan within the larger 485-acre Van Norden Meadow Restoration Project.

So this Halloween, if you’re looking for the real undead, skip the haunted house and head to the Yuba. The salmon are back... and they’re dying to make a difference.
But don’t grab your garlic just yet as these spooky fish are ecological superheroes. As they fall apart, they release nutrients that feed everything from insects to bears to the very trees along the riverbank.
They’re baaack… from the spawning grounds!
Meet the ZOMBIE SALMON OF THE YUBA. After swimming hundreds of miles upstream to spawn, these heroic Chinook start falling apart… literally. Their skin sloughs off, their eyes cloud over, and their bodies begin to decompose WHILE THEY'RE STILL ALIVE!!! 😱

The Yuba-Bear Hydroelectric Project spans the Middle Yuba, South Yuba, and Bear Rivers. Built in the 1960s, the system includes 13 dams, 11 reservoirs, and 4 powerhouses. It supplies water and electricity across the region, but it also diverts water away from creeks and rivers.

California has a long history of protecting its unique biodiversity for future generations. This bill continues that history by ensuring that our state's imperiled fish and wildlife will be protected even if the federal government walks away from its wildlife conservation responsibilities.
AB 1319 would also improve protections against the illegal trafficking of wildlife species, including protecting against the weakening of federal wildlife trafficking laws.
