Highly recommend Sandlos and Keeling's surprisingly hopeful book from @mcgillqueensup.bsky.social about Yellowknife's Giant mine disaster (slow-motion over decades but still disaster) - which I got to review for @theseaboardreview.ca

There seems to be a genre of contemporary fiction where a young, single woman finds a mysterious, possibly alien, possibly living object, and enters into an intense, troubling relationship with this object. What cultural phenomenon does this reflect? (e.g. Maggie Su's Blob, Robyn Braun's The Head)

Unhappy to report that both myself and Porphyry Press were kicked off of both Meta platforms with no warning and no recourse for no reason. So! Hello Bluesky. Join me in Fairbanks on Nov. 19 to launch @rickirobin.bsky.social's new book, GHOSTS OF DISTANT TREES!
I know we all hate M*ta, AND it's still where a lot of stuff happens, including book promotion & sales. Unfortunately, my publisher, Porphyry Press, was just kicked off FB & IG for unknown reasons🤨

So, a reminder: it's a perfect time to order ⬇️ or a local bookstore!

Wednesday’s review, gang: Dawn Macdonald on Jacob Szamalek’s Inner Space, in a translation by Kasia Beford for HarperVia. “Character work and the quotidian is key to the novel,” she argues as she takes a look at this space station-set contemporary SF.

I am pretty stoked to be on this list! Nelson Ball (1942-2019) seems to have been quite a lovely person and generous poet; being listed here is like the next best thing to meeting him (for us who missed that chance)
Two of our marvellous poets have been recognized on the Nelson Ball Prize longlist:
Margaret Christakos, THAT AUDIBLE SLIPPAGE
Dawn Macdonald, NORTHERNY
Congratulations to all!

I have three tiny poems up at the fine online journal "talking about strawberries all of the time". One is based on a dream I had less than two weeks ago so that may be a record for time elapsed from dream to publication.
The 2nd day/15th issue: new poetry by Dawn Macdonald @yukondawn.bsky.social and Greg Bem @gregbem.bsky.social , flash fiction by Thad DeVassie @thaddevassie.bsky.social , and The art of writing #117: an interview with Gregory Crosby @monostich.bsky.social
