Transition to the new year was a doozy . . . let us resume where we left off.
Getting ready to do more woodcuts, trying to preview the outcomes

Hang in there, Kitty.
New Taylor docuseries dropped last night and is waiting for you to watch tonight.

The great thing about mechanical reproduction is the ability to get perfect results each time, so that each item is really indistinguishable from another :)

YELLOW!

Progress! It's exciting to see unexpected overlaps and effects happening along with the things I predicted. Hard to know when to stop. Next up, Yellow.

1/2", 1/4", and 1/8" out of focus lasercuts. A new set of line weights!
Up next: white ink on brown paper.
December 2, 2025 at 12:53 PM
1/8" out of focus gives a fine (but not too fine) a line. Maybe 0.5 mm.
For those keeping track at home, 1/2" out of focus is ~1mm line
December 1, 2025 at 3:48 PM
Out of focus by 1/2" gives a nice fat line

Hatching study getting ready for a making a woodblock

Thinking through the translation from a line drawing a predicted final printed piece. Kind of hard to image what the layering of multiple colors are going to look like, especially when the lines drawn are actually the "reveals" to the color below, and not necessarily the paper color.

Long story short, changes to laser power and speed don't make a whole lot of difference in the print quality of the block. Out of focus DOES manipulate line width (eg, 1/2 an inch out of focus gets a nice fat line, focused is a hairline). Mostly it's all about hatch density. Knowledge is power!

A little ASMR inking
November 19, 2025 at 6:19 PM
Making a test pallet for a printing experiment using laser cut blocks. I want to see what kinds of hatch patterns and densities work for inking woodblocks.

Starting to think about a longer running project. I've always wanted to make a deck of cards, and working through how you'd structure a project that needs 52 single instances of 4 themed images and 52 perfect reproductions of a single image.
