A truncated synopsis of the Hibour Universe, as of the 2370s:

Also yes, I’m still alive! I’m learning to fly an airbus right now so I don’t expect to make a ton of artwork between now and December… but I have some to catch up on so I’ll probably trickle that in this month

I’ve been putting off making propaganda/recruiting posters for the Galilean Federation, RFW and certain factions of the Kuiper Alliance for *years*

I have thumbnails in my art folder from like 2021. I should really get to those sometime…

Introducing #toughtober - a hard sci fi space art challenge, inspired by the @toughsf.bsky.social community.
Toughtober prompt list. The Icarus Interstellar "Firefly" starship design. Original artwork not permitted for use as AI training data or input.

Well if Heg wanted to stir the active duty meme pages… I’d say he succeeded most at that.
A crowd of generals, trained by oath to be apolitical, listen to a politically charged rant by Secdef Hegseth.

I know I can’t pour much into Spaceshiptember this year, but I appreciate all the interest.

Going through a major career change right now, not a lot of time for #hibourverse

Day 16: Armor

A specialized, hardened lander begins final approach over Io. Scheduled flights come and go regularly for the few people who live and work in this irradiated sphere.

Day 11: Dropship

In the first decade of Calphis settlement (while the starships were still being deconstructed), precious shuttles couldn't be risked on bulk cargo shipments. Instead, early Calphians used cheap, disposable pods to deliver material to the surface.

A cargo pod descends over the subarctic region of Calphis.

Day 9: Hunter

A remote, signal collecting spacecraft makes a low pass over Despina. Her antenna is turned away from noisy Neptune, facing outward into the high orbits... listening sharply, hunting.

She is one of many thousands in the outer Solar System.

Ah man…. I was halfway into starting a piece for day 8, when I had a much better idea…
zandoarts.bsky.social
Indeed, but it's also a long game. Some of these bags are also for bioleaching, so they need many years to process.

Day 4: Freighter

Ion-powered gravel bags are easily the most numerous cargo spacecraft in human space, powering the industry of a thousand worlds. Billions of tons of asteroid material traverse the solar system on multi-decade trajectories at any given time

Day 4: Repairs

"Look, the irony isn't lost on me.... repairing the craft that repairs repair drones... I get it."

I swear I usually post art...
An E-3 on the ramp in very dense fog.

The single most persistent threat to combat ops in the Arabian Gulf was fog. During the winter months, the fog would reduce visibility beyond the takeoff and landing capabilities of military aircraft. It frequently prevented tankers from meeting receivers, delayed or cancelled strike packages, diverted military aircraft for hundreds of miles and caused airfield accidents... especially with drones and ground vehicles. CENTOM planners routinely and consistently underestimated the fog in the region. Anti-skid failure on landing. Flight engineer's station on 76-1605 "Krystal" Early morning AAR over the Sea of Japan.

An often undiscussed challenge to AAR is the sun... AAR involves staring at the tanker and recognize minute and subtle changes in closure, azimuth and left to right movement. This is challenging even in perfect weather, but is made especially difficult when the tanker is pointed towards the sunset or sunrise (usually unavoidable, as most AAR patterns are racetracks). No amount of sunglasses can fully protect you when the sun is right on the fuselage. Usually, tanker crews tried their best to limit time pointed at the sun.

"I've seen the footage, tell them that was a nice shot. No idea how the hells the Faleans laid their hands on an SSF, especially with the embargo, but that's bad news. I'll talk to the admiralty about it during the council."

More planes and places
Departure over Okinawa, looking Northeast from Naha. The single runway airfield near the center is MCAS Futenma. The more distant one in the upper left is Kadena Air Base. 81-0005 "Balls Five", around 2200 local at Travis AFB, a quick ops stop between Hawaii and Oklahoma. 82-0007 "Bond", postflight in the rain. Okinawa, Japan. 80-0183 "Goat" on the ground at Bangor, Maine after crossing the Atlantic. Surprisingly, we managed to take off again in this weather.

I thought about doing a #Spaceshiptember2025 here on Bluesky.

Draw, write, build, model, animate, whatever you want, just no fucking AI.
No strings attached, just have fun, do all, do some, do none.
Add #SST25, I'll try to repost as many as I can, as I see them.

Join and have fun!

They are a peculiar species that thrive in the arid plains. Telepathic and featureless, they often wear masks to facilitate interaction with humans, and scavenge gear from those who don’t survive the heat.
