Trottingham Vale Light Railway no. 1 “CELESTIA”, a Double Fairlie locomotive, is being prepared for the day by her crew. The firemare, Stokie Cinder, lifts a bucket of sand onto the engine so she can refill the sand pots. The driver, Conrod Stephens, carefully oils the valve gear. Fellow driver Shammy Shine polishes the brass nameplates to her usual high standard. In the background, newly passed firecolt Smudge brings everyone their all important flasks of tea from the staff canteen.

Trottingham Vale Light Railway no. 3 “CADENCE”, an 0-4-4T Single Fairlie, departs with its train from Hickory Falls station and trundles onto the viaduct over the river and the magnificent waterfalls that gave the town its name. The driver checks back down the train. Several tourists are milling about on the footpath along the river and two ponies are poised to take photographs of the train.
