The Sultans, they play Creole

I loved that one!
A playful Margheriti gothic giallo with a school instead of a castle.
From a script co-written by Mario Bava.
The always entertaining Luciano Pigozzi as the 'suspicious peeper'.

I love his bored-guy acting style in this. It makes menthing of all the mumbly acting in the kind of movies it's a throwback to.

This is a real gem!
Wonderfully weird genre blend that continuously defies expectations.
Freda keeps us in the dark, steeped in the surreal, and even as it all comes together, your brain will be screaming (or squealing).

Experiencing first-time viewings like this is quite a thrill.

Tragic Ceremony (1972)
Riccardo Freda (director)

Let's get mixed up with some devil worshippers at a remote estate!
I've never seen this one.

Ridiculous fun with some of the most drab comedy line delivery you'll hear. Funny on purpose, but doesn't lean into the "we're doing jokes!" style.
The director would go on to make Blood Diner a few years later.
There's a wonderfully odd dream sequence halfway in that is magical.
Check a look!

The Being (1983)
Jackie Kong (writer/ director)

I had a VHS tape of this in the '80s, and I'd watch it a few times a year.
It's a fun take on '50s sci-fi horror, with a wet and gooey monster.
With Martin Landau, José Ferrer, and Ruth Buzzi.

Agree! The bookend/framing is usually a tepid twist (they were --- the whole time!), but having this one act as its own segment while tying in the premise is so satisfying.

Yeah, it's one of the better anthology movies.

Asylum (1972)
Roy Ward Baker (director)

Ending the night with an Amicus anthology film.
I saw this ages ago, it's mostly hazy memory.
It's got Peter Cushing.
Written by Robert Bloch (Psycho).

A mesmerizing descent into an inescapable system.
Vampire cars, evil corporation, zombie car culture consumers...
Herz is always playing with his own rulebook and isn't going to deliver in exactly the way you'd predict.

Ferat Vampire (1982)

A little wobbly, but not bad.
Perhaps too neat in its comparison of the urban legend and the cycle of abuse.
But it does work pretty well. And doesn't have the perfectly tied up solutions that ruin many stories.

Carved: The Slit-Mouthed Woman (2007)
Shiraishi Kōji (co-writer/ director)

Starting with a J-Horror from the director of Noroi.
I haven't seen this movie, but I am aware of the urban legend.

Reached the end of Silent Hill f and I didn't plan to do replays...
But I like the story so much, I went back through for the funny ending and am about halfway through again.

My haute-take: it's the best Silent Hill game.

This is in Severin's box set Danza Macabra volume four.
All of these are full of treasure and worth every cent.

Very good, twisty plot with a lot going on.
Of course, it's a black and white Italian gothic, so I'm set up to like it. But I love it.

Terror-Creatures From the Grave (1965)
Domenico Massimo Pupillo (director)

One last movie before vampire's bedtime...
An Italian gothic horror that I don't think I've seen.
It's got Barbara Steele.
From the director of Bloody Pit of Horror.

Wow, what a movie.
I love these kinds of Japanese ghost stories.
The long shadow of a crime drives everyone it touches to the brink.
82 minutes of betrayal and darkness.

No Telling (1991)
Larry Fessenden (writer/ director)

Of the movies he's directed, this is the only one I haven't seen. And thanks to these wonderful Vinegar Syndrome sets, now I will.
Fessenden is one of my favorite filmmakers.

Did you check under the wallpaper for sigils? Or anywhere else?
Because, what if they cursed it in such a way that once you pass through, everything 'outside' is actually the interior of that place?
And the only way to leave would be to go back 'inside', where the malevolent beings are feasting?
