I think part of what makes Ninja Gaiden feel so difficult is that it's got no fucking checkpoints so every time you lose to a boss you get to do a fun two minute long platforming section that's got like four cutscenes to try it again

I kind of respect Ninja Gaiden 2's weird commitment to implementing every single idea they had during development until you get to the part where you're fighting a big skeleton on a pile of bones while being swarmed by enemies made of bones that you can't see maybe that part could have been cut

Ninja Gaiden 4 is a lot like DMC 4 where halfway through you're not allowed to play as the guy you like playing as no more and you have to be a different guy except in Ninja Gaiden 4 the different guy is way more limited in what he can do and also kills bosses by accident
