Chet Brewer played for the Kansas City Monarchs from 1925 to 1935 and in 1941. As a Pittsburgh Pirates scout, he lived in the Los Angeles area in the 1960s.

When we watch The Sandlot, are we looking at DeNunez wearing Chet Brewer's game cap?

A question that always rolls around in the back of my head. How did Kenny DeNunez get a 1942 Kansas City Monarchs hat in 1962 Los Angeles?

I like to think that he got it from a former player who may have played against Mr. Mertle.

Bobby's father, Wilmer Sr., was a driving force in both Bobby's and Wilmer Jr.'s baseball careers. As a former semi-pro player, he taught them from a young age and modeled both of his sons into the professional baseball players they became.

Bobby enjoyed growing up in Sanatoga. He did all of the normal things a child does, like fishing, ice skating, and baseball. However, his size kept him from doing a few things, such as learning to drive during high school and hunting.

In 1957, his hometown newspaper did a four-part series on life.
The first person to notice his baseball skills was his first-grade teacher, "Watch that mite of a lad handle a ball. He's a comer if I ever saw one."

He stands at 5 feet 6 1/4 inches and weighs 139 1/2 pounds.
