This is beautiful. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I will! Nice meal and a cocktail or two incoming

IT'S DONE! I've written my second novel! Around nine months since starting properly, quicker than I've written anything and a hefty first draft that will need a big edit. But it's done! Who knew I had another one in me?!

Big thanks to #1000wordsofsummer because I never lost momentum after that 🥂

Because an agent–author relationship is a partnership.
Because I’m nothing if not a team player.

Length: 311 pages
Material: Unedited MS

Pitched as [x] [Sthg book club, w/ depth & growth] meets [y] [Sthg spicy! But not gratuitous], a poignant [Too much?], emotionally rich, heartfelt, smart and sexy [Word salad? But it’s all there! Let’s also weave in it’s funny. Largely obscuring the blurb, a Post-it reading: Dear future agent, Even if we sign today, the Frankfurt fair is still gonna be a stretch, so I thought I’d help. Maybe slip it in as a loose sheet? Needs finalizing, but it shouldn’t take you long…
Words from the blurb: ’97 Berlin isn’t [Am I selling “Berlin as a character” enough? What about the 90s angle?] / dream destination. But when poor / poli-sci degree / heads to Berlin / Larger-than / language / handball / his six-year / friendship / their att / One massa / It can only be a fling / path lies in Paris / for shared custody of / secrets that tie him to Berlin. When / them to make an impossible choice: abandon these /or each other. [Stakes high enough? Still clear it’s a HEA?]

Picture of a barn owl
Soph was born in a barn, but soon spread her wings to roam the forests at night. She now lives at the top of a tower and collects mice (well, their bones). When not hooting her next novel, she enjoys moon-gazing. She wishes she were as effortlessly cool as Hedwig but suspects she’s more of an Archimedes. [Finally a decent bio!]

Thousands of Londoners have indefinite leave to remain.

They have legal rights and are our friends, neighbours and colleagues, contributing hugely to our city.

Threatening to deport people living and working here legally is unacceptable.

You probably don't want to be using the mswl hash tag then. It's for agents anyway
zoomusicgirl.bsky.social
Nice idea! Tbh though I need to finish the story as I don't want to leave my poor characters hanging....plenty of edits to keep me busy though I'm sure.

Thanks! Not in need of either but appreciate it

Holy crap I've nearly written a second novel. It felt big enough to say I'd written one (plus a memoir). Four, maybe five chapters to go of this first draft I reckon. Torn between wanting to finish and wanting to remain within it!

Thank you! We understand it takes time and of course you need to prioritise the ones with offers. But writers do appreciate closure even if it takes a while.

#WIPSnips for 'tired'. Lots to choose from here, but went with this one. Nancy visits Jack for the first time and asks him about the words he has carved on his headboard, as you do.

It is hugely appreciated. But yeah no response means no seems increasingly common. I've been ghosted on a full as well, even after nudging, which I think is pretty inexcusable tbh. If an agent doesn't have time to even form reject a full then they're requesting too many.

Just devoured Bitter Sweet by Hattie Williams. Couldn't put it down. The writing was do beautiful and so much of the story was relatable as someone who lived in London in her 20s, trying to carve out a career in publishing and forming or longing for attachments to the worst kind of men.

Not only is this poster stunning but Soph's book is such a beautiful and sexy read! Was invested from start to finish and Berlin leaps off the page as much as the characters. Can't wait to see this one get picked up ❤️

❤️ BEFORE SUNRISE x 🌶️ HEARTLESS

'97 Berlin. Shaking off its Cold War slumber to the beat of techno. Clocks on street corners and lakeside beaches.
And her larger-than-life yet adrift host… whose touch makes her wish this summer would last. But it can't.
