I'm sympathetic to watching video essays for someone's perspective on media they enjoy, that you wouldn't watch otherwise.
But there's also a chance you could've enjoyed that thing if you gave it a try. It's a dice roll with each video.

I think the thing people don't realize is that buildup, character moments, close reading and rereading of art- they're all essential to understanding and motivating the climax.
Watching a biased video about the climax, without having seen it, does a huge disservice to oneself.

I was talking to someone about the ending of part 5 of jojos and after almost 25 minutes of discussion they revealed they watched a plot synopsis video on it instead of the actual episodes.

Sorry to vent! I just think it's important to enjoy something yourself.
If your perspective is always colored by video essays and memes then you are not really experiencing the art.

I love talking about stories and media, interpreting it and positing wild perspectives about the events and themes.
But to do that you need to actually see the media. If you read or watch a summary of the movie/book/show then you don't have the context and experience to interpret anything.
