Fig. 3. van Dijk et al. (2025)’s indicator of persistence is unable to distinguish between extreme positive persistence (left) and extreme negative persistence (right). Notes: Measuring persistence using a first-order autoregressive model (like our eq. (4), but with only one first-order lag), we get ρ persistence on the left, and ρ = 0.8 for the case of positive = 1.00 for the case of negative persistence on the right. Van Dijk et al. (2025)’s indicator of “persistence” calculates the same score of - 0.3513642 for both the left and the right. R code is in the Online Supplementary Materials.

Tesla's fourth "Master Plan" tells us nothing about the company's future. But it says plenty about the present.

It has only been two years since Master Plan III. If Tesla’s underlying business was going well, Musk wouldn’t need to ring this bell so often.

This paper takes a broad view: motivations, incentives, attitudes to promotion & authority, culture, reinventing one's identity as entrepreneur, characteristics of the knowledge base, problem-solving approaches, management practices, ... and even a bit of game theory!
Game theory, regarding the interactions between academia and industry. An application of the well-known ultimatum game.

This is one of those weird Musk rabbit holes that I stumbled onto in 2022, but never had the time to dig into myself. Musk's relationship with NeuroVigil was publicly reported on as far back as at least 2018, but was somehow never mentioned in any Neuralink reporting.

Very sad to hear that Stan Metcalfe has passed away. To the world he was a gentleman, an influential scholar and a passionate, charismatic communicator. To me he was also a supervisor, a teacher and an inspiration. I, like many younger scholars, owe him a great deal.
