Problem. Er möchte nicht mit Alice Weidel oder Tino Chrupalla an einem Tisch sitzen. Aber er glaubt eben noch immer, dass die Wähler*innen der Rechtsextremen eigentlich CDU-Wähler*innen sind. Die Menschen jedoch, die gegen Rechtsexteme demonstrieren, die glaubt er niemals gewinnen zu können. 4/7

CineMap Trier — Digital-Humanities-Projekt sucht historische Quellen zur Trierer Kinogeschichte

Digital-Humanities-Projekt sucht historische Fotos, Programme und
Erinnerungen, um die Kinogeschichte Triers fiir eine interaktive Karte
aufzubereiten.

Im Rahmen des Masterstudiengangs Digital Humanities entsteht aktuell das Projektseminar ,CineMap Trier: Eine digitale Geschichte des Kinos in der Stadt". Ziel des Projekts ist es, die Entwicklung der Trierer Kinolandschaft über die Jahrzehnte hinweg nachzuzeichnen, von frühen Lichtspielhdusern über traditionsreiche Spielstétten wie zum Beispiel Gloria, Modernes Theater,
Palast Lichtspiele, Apollo, Atrium oder Weltspiegel bis hin zu heutigen Kinos wie dem Broadway.

Auf Basis digitaler Methoden und einer interaktiven Kartendarstellung mochten wir diese Geschichte sichtbar und zugénglich machen. Dafur suchen wir Materialien, die historische Einblicke ermdglichen, insbesondere:

- historische Kinoaufnahmen (Aufen- und Innenansichten),
- Filmprogramme, Plakate oder alte Zeitungsanzeigen,
- redaktionelle Beitrage oder archivierte Artikel.

"Ask students to explain why the chatbot is wrong" was a short-lived pedagogical fix — because it's now likely that the students will stumble more significantly than the bot.

There's a path forward for analog/offline learning, and also a path that uses AI. John Henry pedagogy is a dead end. +

This weekend in the Belgian national newspaper De Standaard, a brief article on the origins of the Dutch word "fiets".

Apparently it comes from the 1886 German neologism "Vize-Pferd", meaning "vice-horse" or horse substitute.

Where the word "fiets" comes from was a mystery for 140 years. Until the Belgian linguist Gunnar De Boel (UGent) visited a German colleague in the early 2000s. De Boel brought a bottle of cider. “Here in the Rhineland,” said the colleague, “cider is often ironically called vice-vinum, pronounced as fietse-vinum.”
De Boel may have started to feel a bit dizzy when he heard that. He gathered evidence and settled the debate in a 2011 publication.
The word fiets did not originate in the Netherlands or Belgium, but in Germany, in the dialects along the Dutch–German border. There, all sorts of variations were made from the French, rather complex vélocipède, such as “Veluws little horse” or “Venlo horse.” The joking Germans increasingly spoke of a Vize-Pferd: the substitute horse. In Dutch Limburg or other eastern provinces, the pronunciation “fietse” for “vice” was not immediately clear. They simply heard “fietse-perd” and thought it a fun name for the new kind of horse.
Just as the car shed its tailpipe, the Vize-Pferd lost its “vize” and became a fiets, and the term spread easily across the Low Countries, where it eventually overtook the official “rijwiel.”

The big problem of power and inequality is *too* big to make a good story. Also it’s not news. But imo amplifying concentration of power is the biggest risk of AI.
