Probably. Add the PR factor post Martin debacle, and it’s most likely his to accept or reject. I’ll back him if appointed, and will hope he can get us back to winning ways. If he proves me wrong, everybody wins. If he proves me right, we’re back to square one.

2) Yes, McInnes and Muscat both plays for us. So did Martin…

I didn’t even bring McInnes up because he is unattainable - no way he leaves Hearts this early with the team doing so well. Shanghai Port are also leading their league, and IIRC Muscat wasn’t happy we hired Gio ahead of him. I don’t place too much stock in the former Rangers player thing either.

A left-field suggestion might be Gary Mac without Gerrard. I don’t think that would go over well by himself, and I personally would not be enthused. He had decent managerial spells at Coventry and Leeds, then a very bad caretaker spell at Villa, albeit with a win at Arsenal during that brief spell

I don’t think he is necessarily unattainable but I agree a lot will depend on how far he takes OM.

Aye, perfectly fair. Most support would give O’Neill a hard swerve, I know that.

3) For continental managers, DeZerbi is doing great work at Marseille and did an overall good job at Brighton. But I’d want a solid structure in place before he would come in. Three names, all with flaws and all who would be unpopular with sections of our support. I’d prefer all to Gerrard.

2) I would like someone who can first set the team up properly and get us back to beating the other teams. Stephen Robinson would fit that bill for me, and I think he has a higher ceiling as a manager. If we don’t want to shop in Scotland, Gary O’Neill is available and not a bad choice IMO.

We all have our ideal managers who are outside of the market we are shopping in. And I don’t believe a unifying candidate exists - some of will doubt any man who walks through the door, regardless of who he is and what he has done. Winning will be the only unifier. With that said…

If they appoint him, I will back him as I’ve backed every Rangers manager. But I am not the only supporter who is skeptical and I don’t see him uniting the fan base just by walking in the door. There are many of us who didn’t buy his explanation for leaving and are put off by his subsequent failure

While also losing the first leg at home in last season’s semi-final. These teams have been here before.

They owned this one, which is what you hope ownership will do. Now get the right manager in and continue to build the club’s infrastructure.

I agree getting the appointment right is far and away the most important thing. Hopefully they have an imminent appointment that is pragmatic and energising.
0l3v3r.bsky.social
In my thinking, if we don’t have someone already lined up, then we cannot afford to allow much time to lapse before an interim appointment. There is a to. Of work to be done and Dundee United is not far off.
0l3v3r.bsky.social
So now who? The statement says his top assistants also departing. They have a day or two to make an appointment, otherwise back to Barry?
0l3v3r.bsky.social
Hard disagree. As I see it, he always had his eye on the exit. Newcastle offer wasn’t right but he jumped at Villa - and was completely exposed there.
0l3v3r.bsky.social
3) invested then. We went into a very difficult group well under strength, were humiliated and it cost Gio his job. As for Gerrard, under no circumstances should we bring him back.
0l3v3r.bsky.social
2) Despite 55, I always thought we were a stopover - a check in the box, if you will - for him on the way to the Liverpool job. He failed hard at Villa and Al Ettifaq. The real sin IMO was not backing Gio. He qualified for the CL proper with Colak and some Ross Wilson signings. We should have
0l3v3r.bsky.social
We had backed him heavily to get to 55, and I think the club further backed him by not selling either of Kent or Morelos when both were at peak value, to reinvest. We might have strengthened using the CL money - except that we qualified a winnable qualifier tie vs Malmo.
0l3v3r.bsky.social
He’s not a bad manager, but his trajectory is similar to Martin’s. Martin’s Southampton beating his Leeds side to promotion two seasons ago would be held against him, I think.
0l3v3r.bsky.social
We’ll probably get Daniel Farke in a “lateral transfer”, lol

I really rate Steven Robinson - I’m sure you don’t like to hear that - but I doubt he would want to leave what he is building for us. We have a usual suspects list consisting of the likes of Gerrard, Dyche, Potter, etc. I’d take Kyle Shanahan ahead of any of them.
