Qantas has been fined $90 million for illegally sacking 1,800 workers during the pandemic and choosing to outsource them.

It’s the largest fine in Australia’s industrial relations history – for actions the Transport Workers Union has described as “slippery, deceptive behaviour”.

A magnitude 5.6 earthquake has been recorded around 160km north-west of Brisbane, with residents across the state reporting that they felt the quake, and their houses shaking. Geoscience Australia reported that the earthquake was at 5.6 magnitude, and a 10km depth.
