If you keep adding sweeteners, it’s like clocking an old 90s game of Tetris with a 16-bit register; after 65536 it starts counting up from -65535. No longer is your beverage “too sweet”. Instead, every sip produces ripples in the fabric of space and time

I get 500 tiny fake sugar pills in a dispenser. This month I broke it by being a jackass. But now instead of Pez-dispensing 12 little clicks I just tip a whole bunch into my palm and slap those babies in. 15? 20? God is dead, who cares

I get a mocha with five sweeteners in it. At home I put in like 12. 5 sweeteners gets you a look/chuckle at the coffee shop, 10 gets you ejected from the premises

My (Australian) wife gets all her news and current affairs via the the ITYSL subreddit. Everything in meme/joke form but it’s instantaneous and comprehensive

From the same people who brought you “nanna and pops hate everything now” and “my credit card in being used in Serbia”, this season’s smash hit is “your job is worthless now!”. From the people we all revile more than Wall Streeters - they’re not just rich, they’re ugly!

I think you’ve had a generation raised on the ethos the clear and open communication and/or safe and sober choices solves any and all problems. And those things absolutely do solve many problems. But, uh, not all of them, not even close.

If our meritocracy was fit for purpose, we wouldn’t be where we are today. Things gotta change

We had this incredible series of conflagrations, the resulted in the systems we had. The stewards we’ve had since then thought they were hitting home runs while being born on third base. We’re now all learning what the calculus really is and always has been.

Every other time, every other decade had challenges just as big as these ones. Sometimes the people then did ok, sometimes not. It’s pretty clear which bucket we’re currently in

We’ve done this multiple-decade experiment where we’ve tested whether having good SAT scores, or an MBA, or a successful business, or a military career, makes you a good political operator and fit to meet the challenges of governance. The answer is clearly no.

I don’t know that it is legal, at all: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_.... I have this theory that we’ve been under anarchy for some time, like dogs barking next to an open gate. Law doesn’t mean what it used to

They want the trappings of power, patronage, and prestige, as provided by their current sinecures within the party establishment. Thats it. They’re hoping they can sit on their hands and things will go back to ‘normal’ without any real effort on their part. Gutless strivers make poor stewards

The one (1) positive thing about being broke is that you’re free of utilitarian moral obligations. Anyone with any kind of wealth is technically culpable in the poverty, starvation and homelessness they refuse to address

The plight of the Palestinians has been central to the paeans of Al Qaeda and Islamic State. It no doubt would have motivated the Bali bombers in addition to their anti Iraq invasion rationale. It has now resulted in yet another terror attack. Blowback in Australia for Israeli actions
December 24, 2025 at 5:02 PM
We can try and squash all criticism of Israel in the public sphere. But you can’t undo the opinions already formed. And the speech clampdown will run the risk of pushing individuals at the margin over the edge into radicalism

If they weren’t, then we have a real problem on our hands - pretty much every sane person under 30 believes the events in Gaza to be a genocide. This will lead to a significant number being anti-Zionist. If that can lead to antisemitic terror, event at a low probability, that will be high incidence
December 24, 2025 at 4:47 PM
I think OP is trying say that the shooters believed their actions to be an anti-Zionist act. They then committed an antisemitic slaughter. But one came before the other. Which, from a political perspective, is actually worse in my view. I would have preferred they were straight-up IS fundamentalists
