Ex-electronics design engineer, ex-pro pyrotechnician, ex-pro photographer, ex 24/7 carer for Mum. Looking forward to remembering how to take photographs. Nikon and Olympus fan. Quick to block. #FilmPhotography, #believeInFilm.
Today, my Mum, my best friend, fiercest critic and most staunch supporter, left home for the final time. The end, when it came, was as peaceful, perfect and gentle as she was.

I'm in pieces.

Parcel Force / Ebay telling fibs again. Delivery attempted my a**e. Another 48Hr delivery that wasn't.
Evri is more reliable and faster than The Post Office and Parcel Force, Ebay deliberately misuses reported data.

On the 16th of August it'll be three years since I fired the shutter of a film camera outside of the house. Despite this (and already carrying around a half a kilometer of filmstocks) I've bought myself some new film from @ilfordphoto.com to play with when the opportunity arises. Just because.

Is there a word in English to describe the elation when you find that your 6 pack has 8 packs in it, only for disappointment to set in when you notice that the extra ones are not bacon flavour? I feel lucky and unlucky simultaneously.

This arrived yesterday, although I wasn't emotionally stable enough to look at it. I missed out on it the first time around so I'm so pleased to get the chance of the reprint. For those of you who yearn for "The good old days", buy this & remind yourself just what life was really like back then.

Eighty years ago today, my Mum met the tall, awkwardly handsome guy who was to become my Dad by the bandstand in Boultham Park, Lincoln, at the VE Day celebration. They were married until Dad's death in 2012, just two weeks shy of their 60th wedding anniversary.

This is random. It's 11.25pm in the UK and I'm tracking someone in Northern Germany apparently in a hot air balloon flying, according to his squawk, VFR. How? More importantly, Why?

For Maths fans, 2025 is a square.
45² = 45 x 45 = 2025
Also,
9² x 5² = 2025
40² + 20² + 5² = 2025
My favourite?
1³+2³+3³+4³+5³+6³+7³+8³+9³ = 2025

Where ever you are in the world try hunt this down (BBC iPlayer) and watch it. You won’t be disappointed, although I ended up almost in tears.

Just watched "Tish" on BBC2. Awesome, moving, beautifully crafted.

Pleased to report that I don't look a day over sixty, probably because I'm now two days over sixty.

(It was a nicely understated affair. Don't think I'll bother doing it again though.)

That fountain pen I didn't need and wasn't going to buy arrived today.
January 13, 2024 at 5:32 PM
Can we agree that fountain pens are nearly as addictive as film cameras?

Today I have successfully avoided adding another vintage bellows camera to my collection, together with not buying a Lamy Studio fountaain pen (thanks a bunch, @smithski.bsky.social). My finances have survived intact.

I've been developing a backlog of film and I can't remember where some of the photos were taken. This is Wigan I think.

The Witham peaked here at 4:18 this morning and is holding steady. There was some minor flooding on the western side and Boultham Park is under water. No more rain for at least a couple of days please, January, you've had your fun. Meanwhile, I baked some sausage rolls to keep me awake. 😍

Oh poo. Another sleepless night. 🙄 Another 5cms and we can expect flooding. Happy new year...

I can't wait until it's tomorrow. I loathe new year's eve.

Christmas viewing readied. Once upon a time the whole family used to sit in front of the telly and howl with laughter at this film, still one of the best ever made IMHO. Tomorrow, as for the last four years, it'll be just me watching.
