picoGUS will be able to route your notes through its midi out, but it doesn't have a midi in unfortunately. Also, its joystick is through a USB thingy so it wouldn't accommodate the legacy pinouts of a real game port.
You can still play with your typing keyboard though. There's a bit over 2 octaves

let me know how it goes - it's not extensively tested rough version, bugs are likely! It already chokes a bit (with the typing keyboard) on my 486DX2/66, but behaves well with the midi in controller

* can take in regular keyboard playing (qwerty...] = white notes, etc)
* generate a random OPL2 instrument for you to dig and test out its * values (I use that to find new interesting sounds for other projects)
