In Ottawa, Ontario. Just here to follow what I used to like on Twitter.
I was super excited to hear that transit, bike and sidewalk upgrades were all planned around here in Ottawa, until I learned it was all to be done after 2046. Barring any unforeseen medical breakthrough, human lifespan being what it is, about 1/4 of us will be dead by then. I hope I live to see it!

I don't think there's a winner in this "game". The whole world is worse off. Maybe China or someone else looks better in comparison to the USA but everyone is being dragged down.

Ouch! That's scathing! But... I just have to add that "Pierre On The Chair" was sitting right there, but you didn't care.

It is worse than that because all over the city trees have been taken down. Hospital, airport, Tewin, LRT... have all been clearcut, and that is only places the city controls. Then there's the salt, excessive paving. Ottawa is naturally forest and wetland - we should lean into that, not destroy it.

I only bike sometimes in winter, so not an expert like this, but a couple years ago I started using a ski mask and ski helmet and can confirm this makes it so much more pleasant! Windbreaker pants are also very worthwhile. My ski mask is tinted - I should get a clear mask for winter darkness.

Isn't that building Department of National Defence, though? Or is NRCan in there now, too.

TIL there can be a positive connotation to "dicking around"!

I don't think the absolute lack of funding is a problem. I'd say lack of time is the most serious problem, and the misallocation of research funding is mostly what makes money scarce for worthy efforts.

Don't want to make anyone feel too old, but it is _forty-six_ years since the Walkman was introduced. There were even "transistor radios" well before that, even, but they were mono, with a single super junky earphone.

I am rewinding my Netflix right now.

My guess is when one more crosses the floor that's the moment they toss their leader.

I guess 2h for that route is okay, but fast will make a big difference on longer routes. The existing routes can be made much faster by giving passenger trains priority over freight, lining up on platform like in most countries, and speeding up super slow segments e.g. close to Montréal.

No farting or burping!? Then there's a danger we might explode!

And VIA doesn't even go to Regina anymore, and hasn't for years. Or Calgary.

There are 8 daily trains Ottawa-Toronto, 5 Ottawa Montréal, 8 Montréal-Toronto, 9 Toronto-Montréal. There is only one train per 2 days going from Toronto to Winnipeg and on to Vancouver.

Forget the font, have you noticed all the letters are black! Even the punctuation! From now on the US State Department prints in white only.

The 12 still bunches up into threes, meaning instead of one bus each 15 minutes you get three buses at once every 45 minutes. Somehow this happens right near the start of the run. Strange for such an important route.

Ooo... can't wait to find out for sure!

Oh my gosh, does this mean @mishiikenhkwe.bsky.social did art for the 2026 calendar? If so, it is going to be another awesome calendar art year.

Do it. And then make it free during the day so they can get to and from school.

That's great stuff! Looks like you found a way to tap into some kind of magic!

Again? Parliament has been under construction for a couple of decades. I hope I get to see it completed. It might be turning into Canada's Sagrada Familia.
