There are actual genocides happening in the world. Nobody seems alarmed about mass graves in Syria, civil war in Yemen, etc…why not?

What’s happening is unprecedented, so politicians, journalists, public servants etc are doing their best to adjust. Not doing exactly what you think they should doesn’t mean they’re giving up or giving in.
