DAMN THAT'S LIKE ONE OF THE BEST CARDS FOR THAT TO HAPPEN WITH?? this basically says that you are blessed with Good Brain for some amount of time. Able to think clearly and in balance, without being distracted by sorrows or material concerns.

Hahaha I love this!!! Thanks yall!! And yes of course you can add a cannon, that’s what the modules are for :D

But this is why i stay off bsky, y’know? This is why Systems Matter makes bsky unusable for days at a time. The real work and innovation is getting done among people who feel safe with each other and trust each other, but social media is a constant knife fight.

Mm, I mean, I think there’s a distinction to be made between “The Scene” as it exists in public forums and the actual artistic communities that exist in semi-public or private ones. I think as artists, we run the full gamut. The issue, as usual, is us as businesspeople.

Yeah, it’s true we never specifically clarified that point. It’s not like the game necessarily falls apart or anything if you do roll that, but I bet trying to do all the burdens and boons for enemies would take a lot of time!

Totally, that makes a lot of sense. I’m glad that video helped it land for you! i’m just so jazzed to hear about folks coming to this game from unfamiliar spaces - it’s one thing when a friend likes it, but making new friends is even better. Thanks so much. ❤️

Oh, very interesting! Do I read correctly that you are, or were, rolling dice for the enemy actions??
January 19, 2026 at 6:14 PM
Whoa, that’s awesome! Have you gotten the hang of running it? I’m curious to know if there was anything in particular that was tricky for you to pick up. It’s definitely an improv-heavy game to run, you gotta get jazzy with it.

Are you in the Dinoberry discord?? Like all designers I live for play reports 👀👀👀 I’m so glad you’re having fun!!! thanks for playing our game!!!

Ttrpgs are perhaps second only to fanfic in the sense of being a form of writing that demands very, very little in the way of sacrifice from the author. We sort of reward self-indulgence, because we like idiosyncratic weird stuff and we’re right for that. But, of course, there’s pros and cons

And I count myself among this number, to be sure. But I think that the person who finally nails the soulslike exploration formula will be the person willing to sacrifice monumental amounts of work to remain behind the veil, because that’s the only way to replicate the experience you describe.

And this approach is antithetical to “I’m gonna write an unbelievably huge and unusable lore document and then I’m not even gonna let the players SEE it.” In your terms, it’s like doing the legwork then only publishing the footsteps. But people are desperate to show every ounce of work they do.

In such a crowded field with so much competition, *underselling* yourself doesn’t feel viable. You gotta get loud! Make yourself noticed! If you come up with something cool, everybody’s gotta know exactly what it is and how it works so they can get hype for the crowdfunding campaign in six months!

Bsky fucking ate my posts so now I gotta rewrite em. Stupid add website. Anyway. I think the key here is that soulslike slow lore revelations rely upon *restraint,* which is not a virtue that is particularly valued or valuable in the current ttrpg space. Ttrpg writers aren’t much for understatement

i once read "the rights you think criminals should have are the rights you think everyone should have because the state can criminalize anyone" and it changed how i think about everything

There are interesting conversations to be had around the topic of systems, of course, but proper-noun “Systems Matter” discourse is a pretty quick way to make everyone mad for no reason. It’s a conversation best saved for closed spaces like discords where everyone trusts and likes each other.

The genuine answer is that it’s mostly a signifier at this point. It stands in for about a decade’s worth of obnoxious flame wars, and someone’s stance on it might tell you something about their design perspective *or* it might not. It’s a meme, but instead of making people laugh it makes people mad
