Anybody thinking "all we have to do to fix this is to put the bad guys in jail" is still living in the world where they aren't aware of the jail being owned by the bad guys. Whatever comes after this is going to have to address that these solutions were designed to fail from the start

It pretty much is when all it takes to get people out of prison after doing things that threaten the rule of law is to elect a president that has no concern for the rule of law and pardons the whole lot. That's a ton of effort to finally enforce the law versus the law's enormous loopholes

it's pretty similar to when horses know they are in a race but not why that is important or relevant to anything other than that there are many humans who live and play with them so that they get to run a whole bunch

Case in point, this article is a bit of a read for most people, and it's also paywalled. Most will still not even have the opportunity to scoff up until the thugs are marching on their town. There just isn't the same degree of immediacy when those layers of meaning have so many barriers to delivery.

Some people would just never see any of it because they did not live close enough. Others willfully turned away, or when they saw it in the news or on social media, scoffed at it.

It shouldn't have to come to your doorstep first to be seen, but for many, how else would they ever see it?

aren't they still scraping all the search results for their AI
January 17, 2026 at 2:13 AM
I like how they're visually softening people's AI stances by providing this handy picture that doesn't say "AI should be removed" but instead it should be "optional", like how the press tried to compare people who hate AI to vegans earlier

I've seen other discords do it too. I've even seen it on modding servers, which is honestly great for morale because it's tough trying to figure out the vibe of a niche community
