When warrants and visible IDs are called nonstarters, what’s being defended isn’t law enforcement but lawlessness. If accountability hamstrings ICE, that tells you exactly how it’s operating.

People on the left, whether they support AOC's candidacy or not, need to join the fight against the press's treatment of her. If they succeed in doing it to her, they will continue to do it to any and all of our candidates.

She should take the media head on. Call out the hypocrisy and fascist enabling. Make them answer for themselves rather than taking the high road. Let's have the conversation.

I do genuinely think this is her only recourse. The consultants always tell you not to fight the media because it makes you look like a sore loser, but in her case, I think the treatment is going to be so deranged that she'll have no choice. If she stays in their frame, she's doomed.

You'll be able to immediately identify the ones freaked out by a young brown woman because they will be the ones saying "I have nothing against young brown women but ..."

They will apply different standards to her and they will refuse, adamantly, to acknowledge doing so, because acknowledging it while you're doing it is awkward.

Maybe a few years afterward they will run, "gosh, we're sorry we freaked out" pieces, a la the Iraq War.

She's young, brown, female, smart as a whip, articulate, and unapologetic about her progressive values. Each of those, individually, is enough to prompt an establishment freakout. All together, in one package? I mean my god, we're going to need an on-call team of Freudian psychoanalysts...
