Meanwhile, he really does look and sound like one of those unfunny club comedians who would get a slot on Saturday Night Live in 1987 then never be heard from again.

I saw one of those when I visited Japan. They pulled up outside the Russian embassy and took to the street to rant in some kind of organised protest while various passing Japanese people muttered their apologies to us. The police tackled them and it ended up being more amusing than disturbing.

Technically the first single released on an independent label to reach the number one spot (and at Christmas too). It was PUNK ROCK. Except it wasn't, not even if you squinted.

You would imagine that in the last year or two they've developed a professional script and don't just freeze up angrily when they're asked "What about the local bus service?"

In fact, I'm genuinely starting to wonder whether setting up a direct debit to contribute to Reform's doorknocking fund might be an end to all our worries. If we can get a few mad, large, tattooed bald looking men to turn up in people's doorways looking threatening, then the gig's up.

The thing I will say is that when Reform did have the numbers to doorknock in my parent's extremely Brexitty constituency, they ballsed it up by glaring at genuine floating voters when they asked sensible local questions. They turned some of my family off them (where I totally failed).

(I mean, obviously a real episode would only have featured one specialist chart, and would have played something from the specialist chart, but I don't want to quibble).

It's a very good album, probably their best (or at least, it's between that and "De Stijl").

There's always been a solo farm-dwelling McCartney element to the White Stripes as well, I thought (We're Going To Be Friends", "Apple Blossom", "The Same Boy You've Always Known"). And he also occasionally blues-rocked out.
And Meg's middle name Martha was after McCartney's dog...
