I think the literal interpretation is just that per definition, reading is done with the eyes and, therefore, implies the use of written words. No more, no less. Consuming books through other mediums would not classify as reading per se but ai personally have no problem with them.

You were perfectly clear. I think a part of the book community just wants to feel validated for how they consume their contents and mistakingly take these posts as personal attacks. I see this kind of discourse everywhere on bluesky.

of my reading experiences has been in said language. I could only read in French until my adulthood when I started to learn English and German independently.

I get where you're coming from, but I have to agree to disagree. I truly do not think there is any judgement value in the (at least not mine) statement. I think of it as simply being two very different experiences that are not comparable.

understand certain fluctuations in the verbal format can change the perspective on the story. It is inherently different to experience a book through paper. Audiobooks are, of course, very helpful and not lesser than. However, the two aren't equivalent, that's all.
