More prosaically, the Office of Public Works is worried about damage to the cairn from the huge number of visitors. They'd probably like a few more people to keep that climb as an unfulfilled dream ... and I hope that they get as much pleasure as do I from keeping the dream unfulfilled.

Anyway, most dreams are never going to happen. Life is an adventure, but a short one. All of us can only ever fulfil a tiny fraction of our dreams. I find myself surpringly delighted that something so close will remain one of my unfulfilled dreams.

Knocknarea was about five miles away as the crow flies. The mountain was often capped with a cloud, obscuring the cairn, and sometimes hidden entirely by rain or mist. But in my dream, it was a clear day, and the cairn was visible.
