Yes, but this particular exchange (starts at 20:30) was about a homeless response Katie thought could work for visible homelessness. Katie outlined the plan, but in response (at 22:35) you call out big shortcomings to her plan and apologize for being a “naysayer” and suggest it’s unrealistic.

To be fair, you expressed a lot of skepticism towards Katie’s homelessness plan when she described it on the Seattle Nice podcast before she announced her candidacy pointing out 1) lack of money and 2) nimby challenges siting even one new shelter.

The 2020 PIT count also asked “last stable residence” but for all homeless across the county. Results similar:

- 42% seattle
- 24% king county, but not seattle
- 11% WA state, but not KC
- 23% out of state

I believe the 2024 data is just the unsheltered population and breaks it up by area of KC.

Seattle’s office of revenue and economic forecasts noted in April strong King County job growth in 2024 but that “most of this growth has occurred outside of Seattle tax base”

When NY Mag discovered Olivia Nuzzi’s personal relationship with RFK Jr, they immediately suspended her AND released a public statement/apology.

The Stranger probably should have made a public statement too because this was going to be reported. Even Safe Seattle was dropping hints it was coming.

Some of the reaction I’ve seen from the left on this sounds like “be a good soldier, not a good reporter” — similar to the aggressive attacks you received in 2020 when you simply corrected a factually incorrect viral tweet on a different potentially ethically questionable relationship.

According to the society of professional journalists, there’s multiple ethical lapses described.

For Rich: “Avoid conflicts of interest, real or perceived. Disclose unavoidable conflicts.”

For the others: “Expose unethical conduct in journalism, including within their organizations.”

If Saka wants to oppose the capital gains tax there are more reasonable justifications such as doesn’t raise much revenue, it’s highly volatile so they can only spend the low estimate ($16M), and dependent on tiny number of people who could easily leave the city lowering other tax revenues.
