Designing this has kept me entertained for the couple of years. 300B direct heated output triodes, a tech that dates back to 1935 (invented by Bell Labs). The driver tubes are KT88's, dating back to 1956, and the input tube is a 6SN7, dating back to 1939.
Here's the Raven preamplifier, which complements the Blackbird power amplifier, although it can be used in any stereo system. Co-designed by Don Sachs and myself.

After I left Tektronix in the first big layoff in 1990, I went to the biggest Apple store in Oregon doing network design. Ed Dell contacted me and made me Technical Editor of Glass Audio, and a few years later I became Tech Editor for Vacuum Tube Valley. This led to the design of the Amity amplifier

I started in audio in 1973 with the invention of the Shadow Vector quadraphonic decoder, which decoded SQ-format quad records. That took me to Audionics of Oregon, where I went on to design a line of speakers, and then went on to Tektronix in 1979. I started writing about vacuum tubes in 1991.

I've been designing audio gear since the early Seventies, and switched over to vacuum tubes in the Nineties. Still keeping my hand in with the Raven preamp and Blackbird power amplifier (shown)

Colorado sunset on Halloween eve. Yes, my Jackal nym is ColoradoGuy, but that was already taken on this platform ... oh well, it was a dull nym anyway

Trying the waters after getting the "starter pack" on the Balloon Juice blog. So far so good.

The nym is a reference to a rather famous audio tube designed in 1935 by Bell Labs, and an object of obscure desire by a small group of audiophiles
