It's mainstream as well: dad gives the bride away, bride changes her name to that of her husband's family, &c. All these 'traditions' are rooted in the historical reality of marriage as a legal contract controlling the transfer of property.

I believe you are correct. Also repression of sexual desires and girls as objects like a purity ring her father gives her, (ownership) and when he “gives her” to her husband she gives the purity ring to him. Transfer of ownership. Just sick.
