Yeah it's got its pros and cons. If you're unlikely to ever significantly change what's in the drawer, then not being constrained by the grid is better.

We're renting, so at some point I'm going to have to move all this stuff to a different drawer, so being able to re-configure is a plus for me.

I have a similar drawer that I did with gridfinity. I intended to come back and finish replacing the green organizer but it works as is, so it's fallen to the back burner.

Very cool! Would love to know how well this holds up over time. I can see it going either way - being more durable or less durable than the original.

I have designs in my head for an open-top toolbox that will hold four 24" rows of of panels, and you can hang them on the outside of the toolbox for easy access while you're using them.

That's 8 square feet of pegboard-like storage, modularized and one-hand carryable!

It's currently such a mental load to choose the tools I'm going to put in the toolbox when I'm going somewhere. It will be much easier if they are grouped onto panels, so I don't have to make so many choices. And hopefully I'll be less likely to forget something.

It's been about a week, and it seems like it worked great! No rattling, the prints feel amazing - a really nice premium-feeling weight to them.

There is a little bit of rust forming (see pic). It could potentially grow to the extent that it tries to push out of the print, but I doubt it.

After about two days, the caulking is still malleable and tacky, but that's not really an issue. I think I should have added more caulk to the mixture because some pieces of the shot are loose, but not enough to cause noticable rattling. They might start rattling when the caulking dries more though.

Yep! The person I'm giving it to does some model painting, so I'm leaving it to them how much finishing they want to do on it.

That could be a good approach! Although one of the reasons I did it this way is so I could do the entire print with zero supports. I think you'd have to have a few supports if you did it that way, but they'd probably be manageable.

This was a lot of new territory for me, trying to get a good amount of detail. I used 0.1 mm layers.

I also embedded a piece of scrap metal in it to give it some weight. Makes it roll real nice!

Did they work out for you? This is my first time sharing a model for others to print, it would be really cool to see a pic of it installed on your switch!
