Today, most modern states are considered representative democracies, which are essentially republics. This means they have a system of government where officials are elected to represent the people, and these officials are accountable to the electorate. (take out accountable and this is right).

Not sure why people insist on calling us a "Democracy" Hilary won by millions of votes but "lost" because we are a Republic. When you pledge allegiance it is to "the republic for which it stands" right? The slave states insisted on not having a democracy.

Feeling a bit sad our 17lb. feral cat "Gleason" disappeared. the valley flooded here near #98019 and the valley animals ran uphill toward us, coyotes and bobcats etc. I think he met his end. We didn't adopt Gleason he just showed up- someone 5 miles away got him from a barncat shelter- he ran away

Of course long, long ago the US wasn't overpopulated in a unsustainable way like it is now. We are number 3 in population right behind China and India, no one has any problem understanding these two countries are massively overpopulated.
