Not to nitpick and I'm not remotely taking Mr Eyebrow's side, but the US government has used prisoners as cheap labor for just about its entire history. The 13th amendment has an exemption for prison labor.

Not to nitpick and I'm not remotely taking Mr Eyebrow's side, but the US government has used prisoners as cheap labor for just about its entire history. The 13th amendment has an exemption for prison labor.
