Ahhh I see. These aren't photos and SGC doesn't authenticate photos. The confusion here is the "type". This is referring to the different backs and or front that many of the Jay Publishing "photos" have. Kind of like the different Sanella Ruth types are based on where the Sanella name is located.

@mcfarm21.bsky.social a type 1 vs a type 2 is a lot harder to discern if captions and the right stamps aren't present. Paper stock can usually give away a print from the 40s vs a print from the mid 50s and on. Optical brightener in photo paper became more common in the 50s. UV lights give that away.

Type 2 is still off of the original negative meaning the image should still be pretty clear and free of the pasted captions that are part of image thats usually in a type 3 image. Here is a type 2 of Cool Papa Bell and Candy Jim Taylor vs a type 3 of Larry Doby with the Newark Eagles.
