but the simplest javascript implementation would probably be: create a link, make the link call a function when clicked, and that javascript function would select an html element of your choice (div id=gallery for example) and modify that elements contents to display image html

not sure exactly what ur going for with the gallery but you could always try looking up "lightbox gallery codepen" (codepen being the site for sharing code snippets) to see what people have come up with before, and see if any of that is close to what you want codepen.io/tag/lightbox...
