What's the story behind the Balatro success?

I've played it now and it's good but how have they managed to sell in big numbers for a premium price on mobile?

You may be right but they talk of future open standards

And actions like funding alt iOS stores and making game services (EOS) opt-in and modular speak to an unusually non-monopolistic approach.

But less tie-ins by Steam is good for devs.

A debate to be had?

Cool demo games :)

Guile/Scheme/Hoots all new to me but looks relevant to what we work on : making multiplayer games without backends.

Using blockchain, P2P DAG consensus and CRDTs so far. Content addressable storage and decentralised ID in our future. Will dig into spritley tech too now :)

Thank you for the mega thread.

Do you know anyone working as hard on decentralising games tech as you do on social media tech?

To me, crypto is decentralised money.

Other network verticals trying to decentralise, like social media and games, could make use of blockchain tech but "crypto", as money, can get in the way.

Point is I don't think there is one like ATProto vs ActivityPub for decentealising social networks.

There are huge centralised forces in games like app stores and UGC platforms. Is Epic more decentralised than Steam? Who's using DID, P2P and content addressable networks to do better?

I'd say being less specific about the kind of role you're looking for will help you get that first job. Tailor applications to open roles.

You can start to specialise further down the line and in your personal projects. Good luck 🙂
