Adding to my list of thoughts from reading entries, this morning I've been trying to whittle down the ones I've been clinging on to, and what I'm doing at this stage is looking for (a) memorability and (b) something new...
Some further thoughts for polishing those entries...

(1) Make every word count. With a hundred word story, there's no space for sagginess in your prose.

(2) If you're using dialogue, really think about momentum and concision. Is the dialogue gobbling up too much of the word count?
More thoughts from this morning.

(1) I'm seeing a lot of stories about love and death. These are timeless, ever-present in our lives. But if writing about them, really think about how your angle into them is original.

(2) Titles are a big part of the wordcount in micros - make them do something!!

Creative Nonfiction: Potato Boy by Claudia Monpere
My first boyfriend poured huge piles of dirt on his living room floor. The house was a tiny rental— flaked, chipped paint.

I'm not sure I buy into the whole 5 stages of grief. Maybe everyone is different and has their own stages. Maybe grief is really a staircase. Maybe you should read "Five Flights" by Laura Ingram and revel in the beautiful language of heartbreak.
