I wish that more people understood this concept :)

I loved the Earthsea triology and they were influential on me as a kid. However, I never really enjoyed the short stories set in that world (even the ones by LeGuin) and I never thought Studio Ghibli would be a good match for this material. Fortunately, the books are still there when I want them ;-)

We can warm our communities without setting ourselves on fire. We can keep working while choosing not to support a corrupt and criminal system that doesn't care about us. Together we can weather the storms -- the metaphorical ones and the very real ones outside.

Mutual aid doesn’t always look dramatic — sometimes it’s just showing up with a shovel, a meal, or a text that says “you good?” When I sometimes think I just don't have it in me to help, doing so recharges my batteries and lifts me up.

A lot of the country is getting slammed right now with snow, high winds, and brutal cold. If you have the resources, check on your neighbors. Look in on folks who are older, isolated, or struggling.

Avoid the mega-corporations; you know the ones I mean, but post your anger on Meta-owned platforms. We live in the world we’re trying to change). Even if you already pay for a big streaming service, let it sit dark today. Watch an independently produced stream or better yet, log off and read a book.

Back a creator directly instead of feeding a faceless machine. Small business isn’t an accessory to the American economy — it’s the engine that drives it.

Where have power through how and where we spend our money and put our attention. Supporting small businesses and independent creators is an act of rebellion. Buy lunch from your local deli. Pick up something from an indie designer. Book a GM. Hire an artist.

Many of us need to work today. That doesn’t make you a sellout. It doesn’t make you complicit. It doesn’t mean you’ve betrayed your values or the people you care about. Survival is not surrender.
