Yeah like of course people are on there saying the most awful things imaginable, it’s Twitter. Although also not entirety surprising because I do think the quote-retweet dunking thrill is a big draw for people to stay in there, regardless of what they might say.

I don’t just mean with MAGA stuff like this either. There are plenty of left wing people who probably believe they’re smarter than this who are constantly engaging with obvious bait

But I’m still not going to pretend untrue stuff is true just so people who have never actually taken any interest in Dan and Phil or supported them in any way can twist and weaponise the things they actually did go through for their own sense of moral superiority

Like I didn’t get properly into the Phandom back then even with fic because 1. They were so young and it felt weird and 2. Yeah there was a lot of creepiness. I was deliberately removed from it so personally I don’t have a reason to feel guilty or anything to justify anyway.

And you couldn’t argue against it even with the basic facts of what he said without people assuming you were one of the stalkers trying to justify your actions.

This is hard to have conversations about even now because so many people got the cliffnotes of Dan’s coming out video where he talked about how traumatised he was but didn’t actually watch it, and took a completely skewed version of event as truth.

People always default to thinking that them having an awful time from people being intrusive stalkers equated to them hating fic and fanart when they always encouraged it. Those two things were never the same.

Also just good to see a video from an outsider that understands that shipping WAS bad for Dan and Phil, but also they were always happy with it as a creative thing and even wrote fic about themselves.
