The challenge is that the transition that universal care is, by definition, a low cost model since it’s taxpayer funded. This is a fundamental shift from a commercial model that creates incentives to prescribe high cost / high margin solutions

- Ability to opt out is generally not allowed, although there are elements of 2-tier systems that can facilitate priority access in certain cases. The key to universal care is universality.

- Doctor and nurse wages are certainly higher than “living wage”. Again - this is a solved problem in Canada, the UK and elsewhere. The US can model those

- Tax increase should be offset by reduced insurance premiums. The standard deduction would need to be revisited. This is a solved problem in other jurisdictions that can be modeled
