They are good quality, but not top tier and wear out and warp considerably earlier than other alternatives. Hence the artificial self-perpetuating demand for their products because "Buy British", even if doesn't make sense considering total cost of ownership.

Presumably from a supplier who is actually capable of producing high quality rails,switches and crossings and all the management systems that go with them. It's a fantastic business model for British Steel,supplying rails which need to be replaced more often than others,creating their own demand.
