A HUGE thanks to Stars' Matt Duchene for completely abandoning the front of the net on a 3x3 D-zone faceoff loss... and GIVING the LANE to Lane (Hutson!) for the🏮

Danault: 2 assists & key OT face-off win to Lane Hutson...🏮
(Sill wonder why #gohabsgo added Danault to a lineup of young players?)
- Face-offs (take that DAL)
- Strong 2-way play
- 10+ yrs NHL experience
- Guts!

& very thankful for a SHIT Dallas trio who left Lane's lane wide open... et la but!

Regardless, you're missing an obvious fact that #habs management expect to have one roster GK who is not a 'kid'. Monty is the guy who has already shown his NHL capabilities, and has clearly worked to get back to his 'standard'.
Likely Fowler will be starting in Laval soon after road trip.

I couldn’t have been more clear.
Any other questions that aren’t asinine?
January 3, 2026 at 3:38 AM
So? - totally irrelevant.

The only thing that counts is an aggregate body of work to be judged by voters AFTER the season.
January 3, 2026 at 2:14 AM
FYI, Lane Hutson had 165 1st place votes out of 195 total.

...which is 86% of the 'Professional Hockey Writers Association' members agreeing Hutson earned the ROY in '25 as the player: "most proficient in his first year of competition".

All credit goes to Schaefer for what he is doing, as a D rookie.
BUT, I really can't agree with the rationale from Giampietro that "Right now, Demidov should be a distant second" for ROY.

We will see, but this sounded awfully short sighted!
(and yes, #gohabsgo)

All else being equal, sure thing. But no NHL team is complete without experiential wisdom. TBD!
January 2, 2026 at 10:09 PM
Danault has a lot left to give. Have you not noticed how much MSL and KH value face offs and experience?
January 2, 2026 at 8:28 PM
Also… too many ‘kids’ is a difficult situation for an NHL coach. #Habs are just starting to have needed experience to balance the rookies. Tough call!
January 2, 2026 at 7:50 PM
3 points:
- Both Danault & Evans needed at C for f/o wins & 2-way play
- Newhook a needed veteran w/ high-end speed
- Laine: trade or keep at TDL?
January 2, 2026 at 7:48 PM
Mat: Nice to imagine!
But if your 'near' future includes 26-27, what should #habs do with their other current contracts (& who is the 4th line)?:

UFAs:
* Laine
* Blais

RFAs:
* Dach
* Veleno

Contracted:
* Newhook
* Gally
* Danault
* Anderson
* Evans

Downright STUPID. Insulting to paying fans I'm sure.

Slafkovsky truly showing any doubters after he was drafted WHY he warranted the #1 OA pick.

This 21 y/o may yet become the best 'power forward' ever seen in the NHL.

(or, the second coming of Pete Mahovlich??)

Soooo many smiles - must be fun to live in NK!
January 2, 2026 at 3:54 AM
Nope - never 'bad' numbers when the team wins!

p.s. The only way I look at it: statistical influence on player salaries and future trophies simply doesn't apply to the only thing that matters to a hockey fan - WINNING a hockey game.

A win is a win… especially when it wasn’t expected!

This one really goes to a team effort.
January 2, 2026 at 2:45 AM
No and No.
Bill Guerin always avoids adding 'smaller' players when big choices are available.
January 2, 2026 at 12:59 AM
Huh? Nothing is 'amazing' about giving up 2 goals in a period - even if they scored 3 of their own from one line.

p.s. did you notice that both Aho & Ehlers were on the ice while the #habs scored a goal! AMAZING!
January 2, 2026 at 12:55 AM
Sure, but no matter what, they are still the youngest team in the NHL.
January 2, 2026 at 12:39 AM
Oops - a constant mistake made by lazy hockey fans (or wanna-be media hacks) is judging a player by points scored ONLY.

A more observant follower/fan knows that a balance of skills, experience, and 2-way play is what consitutes a complete, winning team.
