Eligibility: Pediatric MD/DO/MD-PhDs in subspecialty fellowship after residency in US/Canada. Expanded criteria allow PGY4s and early fellows, provided they commit to 3 years of >80% research time.

Over 30 years, PSDP has trained 241 alumni. 53% became NIH-funded PIs, 39% received K awards, and 66% converted K awards to R series (48% to R01). A proven pipeline for research success.

PSDP funding: Year 2 salary $82K + fringe, Year 3 $86K + fringe, plus $20K research and $5K travel annually. Year 1 is institution-funded. Scholars may take Year 3 to another institution.

The PSDP aims to address child health problems, combat the decline of pediatric physician-scientists, and provide 3 years of mentored research training (80–100% protected time) to prepare fellows for academic careers.
