Find myself in various interesting places with interesting people. Trumpers and Tories will be blocked.
It definitely appeals to a kind of self-proclaimed British liberal who hates actual liberalism which is more common than one thinks. Hence why Harry Potter’s world stays the same despite the obvious injustices in it.

It’s interesting how American political parties are simultaneously the most open and democratic and least accountable in the world. Like theoretically one could replace any elected party official but it rarely happens.

We do, however, actually need to teach foreign languages properly though. The holiday French most students pick up is wholly insufficient.

Do you want people to ruin their lives gambling? I’m not a prohibitionist, just regulate this stuff so it doesn’t hurt people.
February 10, 2026 at 8:48 AM
If you cannot tell the difference between regulations designed to protect people from predatory industries and being an authoritarian, that’s your problem.

In the same way smoking indoors isn’t allowed, it’s possible to make gambling so inconvenient as to disincentivise it rather than ban it. People can do what they want but we shouldn’t make it easier for people to hurt themselves.

tbf, this kind of consumption based morality does jump around the political spectrum. For example, many leftists, like myself, would happily see gambling regulated out of existence. However, when disguised as being about "returning to nature" than bad ideas are not too far way.

But the UK’s population is not evenly distributed. So just picking the geographical centre of the country does not alleviate the problem. London’s infrastructure is managing fine for its population. It also is more cost effective to build infrastructure in London than elsewhere.

I don’t see why those premises need to be outside London. The density is an argument for more stuff being London not the opposite. 1 in 6 Brits are in London. 1 in 20 are in Manchester. It is more democratic for parliament and government to be in London.

London has more MPs than any other region. More people live in London than Wales and Scotland combined. I don’t know why we need to constantly talk down such an important and diverse city.

I believe that men and women should be treated equally without exception.
You seem to believe women are so fragile that they’ll disappear when in the presence of a trans woman.
If you speak to the Iranians, they sound exactly like you: “we’re just protecting women” so they say.
September 6, 2025 at 5:47 PM
Ironic since you share views on single sex spaces with Iran and Afghanistan.

Trans people should use whatever service they prefer. Anything else is discrimination and authoritarianism that would make the Talbian proud.
It is telling that progressive countries like the Netherlands have stopped using sex on identity documents while Britain seems stuck in the past.

My argument is that single sex spaces are a convention that needs to be flexible enough to accommodate various people. That obviously includes trans people. If that flexibility is removed then the space itself should go too as it’s not tenable to ever enforce actual sex segregation like terfs want.

If a white person requested only a white doctor, should that be respected?
Male cleaners, nurses and doctors are regularly in women’s wards. Most European countries plus the US don’t segregate hospital wards at all. New hospitals are built with individual rooms.

I’m not in favour of basing laws on what sportsmen think. If equality laws have an adverse effect on sport then so be it.

Unless it is a private members club, clubs cannot discriminate based on sex actually. There have been cases of women’s nights at bars being ruled illegal.
September 6, 2025 at 4:29 PM
Should male doctors be banned from women’s wards? If not, then segregated hospital wards make little sense, and will also be unenforceable. Who, honestly gives a damn about sports? Clubs can’t discriminate on sex unless they have an extremely specific reason. Refuges allow male children and teens.

Trans people, like all people, will use whatever toilet they want. Unless you have people standing guard at every toilet, which would be a gross violation of privacy, your policies will have no effect except to ferment paranoia. Do you expect people to humour bigoted policies?
