There was a lot of yarn in that gansey.

Now starting that lace shawl. ‘Beginner’s Triangle’ by Amy Detjens, pattern is in ‘A Gathering of Lace’ by Meg Swansen, XRX books.

Quite forgiving pattern that can be used on many different yarns and needle sizes.

Finally finished the 1st sleeve on ‘jorn’s gansey’ from Beth-Reinsel’s book ‘knitting ganseys’
I intensely dislike it. So it will be frogged this evening.
It will become Amy Detjen’s ‘A Beginner’s Triangle’ instead.

You all got any recent knitting failures?

Still working on ‘jorn’s gansey’ from ‘knitting ganseys’.
Neck done. It fits ok. But the yarn still has the spinning oil in it so it needs to be washed first before it loses its stiffness and blooms.
Now for the sleeves. Even more 2/2-rib …

Progress on ‘jorn’s gansey’ from Beth Brown-Reinsel’s ‘knitting ganseys’.
Front and back down, shoulder seams closed. Yes, I can get my head through the neck. Yes, it fits.
Now to pick up stitches for the neck.
Starting to hate 2/2-rib though.

‘jorn’s gansey’ from Beth Brown-Reinsels ‘knitting ganseys’. Two-ply lambswool.
Back done. A simple test fit is OK. The wool still has spinning oil in it and I hope it will bloom, soften, and thicken when it is getting its soak.

#ShowMeYourKnits #KnitSky #Gansey Working away on ‘jorn’s gansey’ from Brown-Reinsel’s ‘knitting ganseys’ Made it to the top of the gusset, which is one of the defining features of a gansey. Now to do the back.

‘Jorn’s Gansey’ from Beth Brown-Reinsel’s book ‘knitting ganseys - revised and updated’. Knitting it in a two-ply wool from wadils.dk. A gansey of course can have your initials on the front near the left seam. TH for me then. 2025 on the back.

Did I mention that I occasionally also dye wool? This is white and grey lambswool 7/2 100 g on each cone. It was dyed using six variants of the Berliner Blau/Turnbull’s blue/Prussian blue process.
There are more of the first two variants as I was unsure about the method.

@debbietknits.bsky.social DebbieTKnits makes some great cable work. Go look at her posts here. Inspired by that a simple 10 stitch wide strip for a strip-blanket. Edge stitch, k, 2p, 2x2 cable, 2p k, edge stitch. Now, how should I do this? 50” strips width-wise or 60” strips length-wise? #KnitSky

Yes! I got permission by the recipient to post a redacted image of her wrapped in the shawl (thus the black spots).
She is my Dad’s polish house keeper/live-in nurse/companion.
She absolutely was over the moon getting it. ‘Polish winters are cold’.

And it is done. The final glamour shot here on my office couch. Now to pack it down to take it to the recipient tomorrow.
I think I’ll be knitting more shawls again.

160+ cm or 60+” square! Too large to fit on my guest bed. Which is the largest flat area I currently have for blocking. Good I bought those blocking wires. They save me a lot of pin work. Now the fan to dry it and then sewing ends in tomorrow.

The edging is grafted. The slits are sewn. A dropped stitch sewn back in. Ready for its soak and its stretch tomorrow afternoon.
Then it will get to shine and really show off its pattern.

The knitting on the Shetland Hap Shawl is done. Now to graft the edging, sew the slits, wash it and block it. I should be able to get that done before deadline.

It got bigger and heavier than originally thought … good thing shawls aren’t fitted.

7/8ths done, 14 more repeats of the edging pattern, then the finishing starts. Nine days until deadline. I think I’m good.

Progress on the Shetland Hap Shawl. Edging around 2.5 sides. 42 pattern repeats to go. Then grafting the edging, sewing up the borders, washing, stretching, drying. Deadline: May 15th. Should be time enough. #knitting #knitsky #shetland #lace

Fourteen repeats of the edging pattern cover half a side of my Shetland Hap Shawl. Three and a half sides to go. I’m knitting a lot here these holidays. 26 days until deadline. #knitsky #knitlace #knit

I always do one repeat of the edging outside the shawl so I can get a feel of its flow, how the decreases and increases shape the pattern. Also the last return/even-numbered row in a different coloured yarn, so I can see how to graft it together once I’m all the way around. #knitsky #knit #lace

Fourth border done on my Shetland Hap. Amazing how a deadline will speed up one’s knitting. Now to pick up all those stitches all around (over 1000) and knit the edging on.
Pattern: Cobweb Crepe Shawl from Sharon Miller’s ‘Heirloom Knitting’. Yarn: lamb’s wool from Wadils.com

I’ll be busy!

The second of four borders knit on the Shetland Hap shawl.
It will be quite big, minimum 1.8 m /6 ft. square.
But big shawls give warmth and drama.
Pattern: Cobweb Crepe Shawl in Sharon Miller’s ‘Heirloom Knitting’
Yarn: Wadil lambswool 7/2 grey

Ribbit, Ribbit!
Sometimes knitting doesn’t work out, time to rip it back, a.k.a frog 🐸 it.
Nice lace yarn from World of Wool, BFL/silk/stellina. Lovely hand.
Nice pattern, too.
But I knit it way too tight on 4 mm needles. It needs 4.5 mm and a more relaxed hand.
So, I rip it and start over.

My 1st shawl of 2025, a Shetland Hap. Sofar centre and 1st of 4 borders. 7/2 lambs wool, 3.5 mm needles. Pattern ‘Cobweb Crepe Shawl’ in Sharon Miller’s ‘Heirloom Knitting’. #knitting #shawl #shetlandhap #laceknitting
